Self-Assessment

January 2025 seems a long way away but it  is always comes around sooner than you think - just like Christmas! 
 
Also, if you are submitting a Self-Assessment for the first time, you need to register with HMRC for your Unique Tax Reference ("UTR") by 5th of October 2024 and if you want HMRC to work out your tax for you, you must submit by 31st of October 2024.

Basis Period Reform

CALLING ALL SOLE TRADERS AND PARTNERSHIPS!

From April 2024 all Sole Traders and Partnerships will have to make sure their Accounting Year aligns with the Tax Year. This means that instead of being able to choose when your Accounting Year ends, you will now have to make sure your Accounting Year ends on 5 April* each year.

This may mean you have an overlap period for your accounting year and if so, you may have to pay more tax, so make sure you change now and don't pay extra tax.

Capital Gains Tax

The tax threshold - the amount you can keep before you pay tax - changed for Capital Gains Tax on April 2023. If you think this may affect you, particularly for your Self Assessment Tax Return, contact us now on 07754 758 740 or queries@northstaffsaccounting.co.uk.
