Have We Got News for you?
HMRC introduced Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment - MTD ITSA, for short - from the 6th of April 2026.
It affects all Self-Employed Sole Traders and Partnerships, and Landlords whose annual trading income is £50,000 or above.
If this is you, what does that mean for you?
It means you have to report your earnings and allowances to HMRC every quarter, which means the first reporting date is the 7th of August 2026 for the period 6 April to 5 July 2026.
Each quarterly digital update needs to be made using HMRC-compatible software, plus an annual Final Declaration replacing the current Self Assessment return BUT you do not have to pay HMRC quarterly, just annually like Self Assessment.
